2018 Winter Olympics: Who Wore It Best?
From alpine skiing to curling, the 2018 Winter Olympics have what some might call the most ruthless athletes, able to become the best in the world at these sports even in the coldest conditions. But do they really have it all? Can you perform well and look good doing it? I’ve made it my mission to find out. So here’s my run-down of the 2018 Winter Olympics best-dressed list.
To start off, let’s begin with a fellow Chicagoan— speed skater on the United States Olympic team, Laura Gehring. Pictured below (on the left) Laura and her team wear a modern twist on a classic speed skater look. As hard as I can imagine it is to find cute skating onesies, the U.S. team does us proud in cute-colored solid patterned pieces, courtesy of Nike, with bright green helmets. I can almost imagine one of these fine athletes jogging in Central Park or walking in brisk weather to the gym given the trendy style of the blue vests with black long sleeve turtlenecks and athletic leggings.
Next, let’s check out bobsleigh, another difficult sport to make fashionable. Let’s face it, these guys are mainly in their sleds the whole time so you can barely even see the outfits they wear, but if someone has to win— my best dressed list, not the gold unfortunately— it’s got to be the Republic of Korea’s 4-man bobsledding team in their bright red printed bodysuits. With a gorgeous geometric patterned print descending across their shoulders, the Republic of Korea’s 4-man team looks fast and furious in their majestic uniforms.
Now for one of my favorite sports to dress for— snowboarding. Whether you’re Shaun White or Gretchen Bleiler, every snowboarder knows that looks are half the battle (well really way way less than that, snowboarding’s super hard). However, for the Italian Olympic team, best dressed snowboarders are in the bag. Michela Moioli, winning the Gold medal for women's snowboard cross this year, came dressed for success in her royal blue striped snow pants ensemble.
Finally, the sport everyone waits for with bated breath— figure skating. This year the contenders were fierce, in competition for medals and couture. With Kaetlyn Osmond from Canada’s “Ana Karenina” meets "The Black Swan" ensemble and Envegia Medvedeva from Russia’s maroon embroidered choker, the judges had a big decision to make. However, with Alina Zagitova’s red short ruffled skirt and gold decolletage, it’s no surprise she won the gold. I mean how couldn’t she win doing this?
