STITCH's Guide to the SAG Awards
This past Sunday was the 23rd annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. For some viewers, this event might be about recognizing exceptional talent in film and TV, but for me, it’s all about the red carpet. I’m always excited to see what the hottest celebs will rock on the red carpet. But, unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed this year. I want to say that there were some looks that I liked, but I can’t even say that. I hate to be so cynical, but the stars really missed the mark this time.
Let’s start with Emma Stone. I love Emma Stone. I think that she is the perfect human—funny, down to earth, and gorgeous. But I am really not a fan of her dress. It looks like two dresses merged together. I think that the lace part is beautiful, but the floral overlay ruins the entire look.
Nicole Kidman is another star that really confused me. Why are there birds on her dress? Why??? I think that the shade of green looks great on her, but those birds ruin the dress for me. Sometimes, when celebrities attempt to step outside of the fashion boundaries, they take it too far. Below is exhibit A.
Natalie Portman took an interesting fashion route as well. I get that she’s pregnant and that limits her fashion options, but I don’t think she dressed the bump well. Being pregnant is the one time when you can embrace a big belly. Take advantage of that! I think that she should have chosen an option that showed off the bump more, rather than concealing it under a flowy dress.
My last jab is at Salma Hayek. First of all, yellow is such a hard color to wear. I think that she can pull it off, but the combination of the yellow with that light pink is just way too much. Second, what is on her shoulder? That ruffly, floral contraption is just not doing it for me. What was she thinking?
Ok, I’m done. That’s enough hate for one post. I just hope that this was a fluke; that these celebs still have their edge for fashion. With major award shows coming up, such as the Grammys and the Oscars, I am confident that they will make a fashion comeback. They have all had great fashion moments in the past, but as we learned, not every look can be a hit.
