Are You a Unicorn, or a Dark Horse?

Thought unicorns didn’t exist? Well think again because unicorn everything is an unavoidable trend. From unicorn drinks to unicorn makeup to unicorn fashion, the rainbow, glittery fad has taken over. Here are some of the best (and worst) unicorn items for all of you sparkle lovers (and some anti-unicorn recommendations for those who prefer to stay on the dark side).

Unicorn Frappuccinos

Everyone swarmed Starbucks the day that this sweet, colorful drink came out. The frappuccino, which supposedly taste like mango, changes colors and changes flavor from sweet to sour. While this drink makes for a worthy Instagram, it is loaded with sugar, and frankly, does not look very appetizing.

Dark Alternative: The Midnight Mint Mocha Frappuccino, Starbucks’ newest frappuccino, is perfect for those anti-unicorn coffee drinkers.

Unicorn Louboutins

Last week, Christian Louboutin released these $954 sparkly, color changing boots. While the unicorn trend can be a tad overwhelming, these boots are the epitome of glittery fashion. They might not be worth hundreds of dollars, but they’re still pretty to look at.

Dark Alternative: These black Louboutins are the polar opposite of rainbow glitter.

Unicorn Makeup

Sparkly, rainbow, unicorn makeup has been trending on Instagram and Pinterest for a while now. To be honest, this look is a little much. There is such thing as too much glitter, and I think this trend is just that. This look makes me glad that unicorns don’t actually exist.

Dark Alternative: Not a fan of glittery eyeshadow? Try Dead of Knight from the Kylie Lip Kit for a darker look.

Unicorn Donuts

Also referred to as “Doughnicorns” are rainbow donuts decorated to look like unicorns. These desserts might be a little much, but when has a donut ever done you wrong? I’d say this sweet treat might be worth a taste.

Dark Alternative: Even those who are anti-unicorn love dessert. This coconut ash ice cream in a charcoal cone is the perfect goth themed treat.

Unicorn Hair

Unicorn hair is a mix of different colors such as purple, blue, and pink. Of all the hair dye trends, I definitely don’t think this one is the worst. This is definitely a hard look to pull off, but I respect those daring enough to give it a try.

Dark Alternative: If you’re not into rainbow hair, go the opposite route and go grey.

Unicorn Nails

Yes, even unicorn nails are a thing. I wasn’t exaggerating when I said this trend has literally dominated the beauty world. These nails are made to resemble a unicorn’s horn. I actually think this look can be fun and looks pretty if done right.

Dark Alternative: These black matte nails created by nail artist Jin Soon Choi for Vera Wang are both dark and trendy.

Unicorn Clothes

Of course I had to include unicorn clothes. From dresses to shirts to pajamas, unicorns have been everywhere in the fashion world. Stars like Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, and Emilia Clarke have all worn unicorn outfits on the red carpet, and it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a unicorn top at your local mall.

Dark Alternative: You can never go wrong with a plain black t-shirt.
