Denim Disasters
Jeans are a staple in the American wardrobe. They are the epitome of a cool, comfortable and casual look. Yet today’s jeans have evolved far beyond your favorite pair of light-wash skinny jeans that you wore in seventh grade. From drastic rips to intricate designs, many of today’s denims trends are very... unique to say the least. Here is a look at some of the strangest (yet kind of intriguing) denim trends:
Detachable Jeans
When I first saw this look, I honestly had no words. When I could finally get over the shock that someone actually invented these, I had to wonder who would actually wear them. I love jeans and I love jorts, but combining them together in this look is going too far. Pants or shorts: please just pick one because this look is just unnecessary.
Clear Jeans
Another denim trend gone too far. I am a fan of showing some skin through ripped jeans, yet showing some skin through a plastic opening on your pants is not a look I would want to be seen in. I definitely approve of the mom jeans trend, but “clear knee mom jeans” is not something I can get on board with — especially not for $95.
Extremely Ripped Jeans
You know when you go to your grandma’s house wearing ripped jeans and she asks you if you bought them like that? What do you think she would say about these? When jeans are this ripped, I’m not even sure if they’re still pants. They look more like shorts, yet there is still pieces of denim at the bottom. I am all on board for edging up a look with some ripped jeans, yet these jeans look like they were attacked by a bear.
One-legged Jeans
If extremely ripped jeans do not allow you to show enough skin, don’t fear! One legged jeans are an actual item of clothing that you can buy. This look was seen at Coachella, and in my opinion, it shouldn’t be seen anywhere else. I’m not really sure what the point of wearing half of a pair of pants are, and clearly, the ripped denim trend is going too far.
Side Bow Jeans
I am a huge fan of the lace-up trend, especially on jeans, but I don’t think I can get on board with these side-bow jeans. They are a little tacky and excessive for my taste. Lace-up is one of the biggest trends right now, but I think these jeans take it a little too far. I think it’s time to dial down on the bow trend and stick to a classic pair of denim jeans.
Thong Jeans
Saving the best (and certainly the strangest for last). Thong jeans are actually a thing, and no, I can’t believe it either. These do not look comfortable nor attractive. Overall, I am astonished that someone actually decided to invent these and sell them, but to each their own. No matter how strange a denim trend is, it is undeniable that jeans will always be a classic look (even if they are being worn as a thong). Yet, for now, I think I’ll stick with my average pair of blue jeans.
