MET GALA STYLE REVIEW
In the new age of wearable tech—from Apple Watches to Google Glass—the intersection of fashion and technological innovation has become the latest trend. Hence, the theme for this year’s Met Gala: “Manus x Macchina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” The best-dressed attendees at the gala found the perfect intersection between these two entities with an interesting twist. Here are some of STITCH’s favorite looks from the Gala:
Nicole Kidman
Kidman’s outfit pays tribute to space exploration. The black fabric contrasted with the silver detailing is reminiscent of the night sky, and her accessories, including her jewel crown and translucent cape, give her the appearance of a goddess from another world.
Emma Watson
Watson’s outfit appears classic at face value, but once you delve in, you realize there is more to the garment than old-hollywood style. Many have already claimed that the look- with trousers and a skirt that are made entirely from plastic bottles- will change the look of sustainable fashion forever.
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik
Hadid and Malik look like fashion’s finest robotic couple. Gigi’s high neckline highlights the metallics in her outfit and allows her to get away with a more conceptually basic outfit. Zayn’s suit is reminiscent of a robot, but in a way that is tasteful and not overwhelming.
Beyonce
Beyonce may be one of the few people who could pull off a latex dress. Like Watson, Beyonce’s dress played with fabrics and textures, which was perfectly appropriate for the occasion. The latex, contrasted with intricate detailing of flowers and pearls, shows this contrast even more.
Katy Perry
Perry’s dress featured sown-in metal pieces and technology, including a Tamagotchi toy. Her dress provided a much different tone than the more popular robotic aesthetic for the evening.
Lupita Nyong'o
The color of Nyong’o’s dress made a move away from the common color scheme of the night, silver and black, to create a bright spot on the Red Carpet. Her inventive hairstyle also showed her creativity.
Kate Hudson
Hudson wears an interpretation of the design process as a crossing of fashion and technology. The dress was fitted to the Fabletics creator’s figure perfectly, as if the dress was made on her just before the Gala.
Will.i.am
Will.i.am took the cross of fashion and tech to a new level with the visor of his hat. The accessory reminds viewers at home of new tech developments like Google Glass.
Claire Danes
As the guest of Zac Posen, Danes wore a classic style Posen gown with a special twist for the evening’s theme: the dress glowed in the dark.
