NU Students Spring Forward Their Fashion

Spring Quarter has officially arrived. Despite the utterly disgusting snow day we had this past Sunday, warmer temperatures have allowed Northwestern students to show some skin, wear less layers and add color to their everyday outfits. Most importantly, the past three weeks of this quarter have allowed students to actually enjoy Evanston’s weather and make the most of their outdoor experiences – ultimately showing off their amazing styles.

There is no doubt that Northwestern students possess a distinct style. We know how to dress for all four seasons and for the (usually cold) weather – a skill that I could not let go unnoticed.

Throughout the past week, in the midst of Evanston’s transition from winter to spring,  I captured how students added their own unique touches to their “ready for warmer weather” outfits.

This is what I learned from Northwestern students’ fashion:

1. Puffers are a must-have for this brisk weather – they’re one of the top trends of 2019! Most styles are offered in a range of colors (literally any color imaginable), allowing for those that sport the trendy jacket to look vibrant while also staying warm.

Instead of settling for one color, pick a jacket that’s offered in multiple hues! Weinberg first-year Nomi Tannenbaum was spotted in Lisa’s Cafe wearing a multicolored puffer jacket along with black and white vintage boots that are absolutely adorab…

2. Do not be afraid to mix patterns – a fun combination makes any outfit stand out.

3. You can make layering really fun! Considering that most Spring Quarter days we’ll have temperatures that range from 50 to 60 degrees (with an added bonus of some unexpected crazy winds), layering is important. However, you can get creative with it.

Accessories like these are perfect because they can entirely change the mood of your look.

4. Colors are important, but unconventional colors like brown, dark magenta, mustard, coral and turquoise are even better. Just add some unconventional colors to your wardrobe and you’ll be ready to stand out this spring!
