STITCH Coachella Fashion Round-up

Although Coachella is most widely known for its incredible musical lineup (Hello Beyonce!), each year also brings incredible new festival fashion trends. From the inevitable flower crowns to the body glitter, Coachella fashion is so one-of-a-kind that celebrities, social media influencers and fashion enthusiasts will hire stylists to meet them in the desert, ensuring they will be on the Best Dressed List.

However, whether you’re a celebrity or not, Coachella fashion can sometimes be a little extra for day-to-day wear. (A pink wig and jeweled bralette would not last for more than a minute thanks to that Lake Michigan wind.) But luckily for us, this year’s biggest Coachella trends can be toned down so that even a college student heading to a 9 a.m. lecture can look like Emily Ratajkowski. So if you’re like me and could not afford to go this year, we can at least dress like we did.

Peasant Dresses:

Peasant dresses have officially cycled back into style, and model Emily Ratajkowski effortlessly styled her summery look with beachy waves and strappy heels at a REVOLVE Coachella afterparty. When the weather gets a little warmer, style a peasant dress like this $25.99 one from Forever 21 with some gladiator sandals for a day on the Lakefill. Even if you’re counting down the days until you get to take a break from studying for midterms, you’ll at least be rocking one of summer’s biggest trends.

Matching Sets:

Matching sets were by far the most popular trend at Coachella. Not only are they easy outfits, but they’re also practical for both day and night. If it gets colder in the evening, all you have to do is put on a jean jacket to effortlessly complete your look. Victoria’s Secret Angel Sara Sampaio stunned in her millennial pink gingham matching set paired with a white backpack, sunglasses and sneakers. Wear a matching set like this $148 one from Urban Outfitters for the perfect Insta pic from a day trip to downtown Chicago.

Crochet:

Actress Vanessa Morgan, also known as Toni Topaz on Riverdale, rocked her light blue bralette with matching denim shorts and Dr. Martens for a day at the festival. The light pink streaks in her hair and under eye glitter perfectly completed this fun and chic festival look. To match Vanessa, minus the glitter, try this $40 crochet floral bralette from Topshop. Paired with high waisted denim shorts and sandals, this outfit is perfect for an inevitable warmer day at the Northwestern beach.

Utilitarian:

As one of the reigning queens of Coachella fashion, only second to Vanessa Hudgens, actress Shay Mitchell unsurprisingly blew everyone away at the REVOLVE after-party with her seriously on-trend utilitarian outfit. Pairing her unzipped army green jumpsuit with a white sports bra and sneakers, she completed this casually stylish look. For a more affordable, but still on-trend utilitarian outfit, try this $47 off the shoulder utility dress from ASOS. Just add sneakers or combat boots for the perfect Spring outfit.

Unicorn:

In my opinion, model Taylor Hill won Coachella this year. She created the perfect on-trend look, incorporating two of the past few years’ most noteworthy trends in one outfit: glitter and millennial pink. Her matching purple set paired with a light pink kimono, light pink Converse, and light pink purse effortlessly completes the fun, monochromatic look. However, an outfit exactly like hers might still be a lot for someone not heading to a music festival. To tone it down, but still mimic this unicorn-themed look, try a light pink glittery dress like this $69 one from Urban Outfitters. Pair it with colorful statement earrings and Converse for a surefire way to give off unicorn vibes to everyone in your lecture.
