The Bright Side to Jordyn Woods' Alleged Cheating Scandal
On Feb. 19, social media platforms were booming with headlines about Tristan Thompson and Jordyn Woods’ alleged – and completely unexpected – cheating scandal.
When I first read the news notification on my phone, I was weirdly happy. As an avid follower of Kylie Jenner and Jordyn Woods’ infamous and inseparable friendship,I’ve wanted more for Jordyn Woods for a long time. I always felt that Woods easily and comfortably lived in Jenner’s shadow, rarely acknowledged by the media without being in the presence of her best friend.
With that being said, I believe that this cheating scandal is the best thing to ever happen to Woods.
First of all, the series of headlines following the breaking news of the alleged scandal all pertained to how the Kardashian-Jenner clan will never do business with Woods again. Fans of Jenner and Kylie Cosmetics even noticed that the Jordy Lip Kit was marked down fifty percent (from $27 to 13.50, a steal if you ask me), which, to many observers, served as a response to the alleged hookup.
And of course, the Twitter community started to create memes making fun of this situation. Although, these memes are objectively hilarious, they point to the fact that Kylie Jenner has a control over Woods’ life and that the Kardashian-Jenner clan is undoubtedly toxic, stripping Woods of her resources and connections.
And unfortunately, it seems that Woods is aware of the impact of the media’s most loved family has on her influence and popularity. In the first sentence of Woods’ small biography on her clothing line’s — SECNDNTURE — website, it claims that she has appeared as the “co-starring role on best friend Kylie Jenner’s E! Series, Life of Kylie.”
Again, she is so much more than this.
First of all, SECNDNTURE is a unique, premier clothing line that works to bring “size-inclusive, street style inspired activewear to the world.” She has also collaborated with Too Faced to create her own lip gloss. And most recently, she collaborated with Eylure to launch a new and affordable false eyelashes line, which she is advertising in the midst of this whole scandal outbreak.
In the end, it’s better for Woods to not be associated with the Kardashian-Jenner family. In my opinion, the family uses their relationships with black people as validation for advertising black culture, art and design as their own and ultimately profiting off of it.
Therefore, Kardashian’s removal of Woods from the Good American website was the best move for both of them. Jordyn Woods doesn’t need the Kardashian-Jenner clan for success or for her brand, especially when Khloe publicly attacked her on Twitter for what seems to just be a kiss.
On March 1, Woods joined dear friend and actress Jada Pinkett Smith for a transparent conversation on her popular Facebook Watch series, “Red Table Talk” (I also have to mention that Jordyn looked stunning here). Here, Woods claimed that Tristan Thompson kissed her without consent, ultimately debunking the rumors that they were “all over each other.” However, after the premiere of the episode, Kardashian took to Twitter blaming Woods for the reason her family broke up.
She then apologized (probably the advice she got from her PR team, aka Kris Jenner) 24 hours later, but the public did not fail to realize how Kardashian initially did not acknowledge Tristan’s part in this. Her automatic defense of the father of her child — who has a long history of cheating — really showed her true colors.
During the talk, Pinkett Smith mentioned that the public crucifixion, death threats and disgusting hate that Woods has been receiving is nothing new. “Well you know that they say, black women can be the most disregarded and disrespected creatures on the Earth,” Pinkett Smith said.
I couldn’t agree with that statement more, especially in the context of the relationship between Woods and the Kardashians. And that is why she doesn’t need that family in her circle anymore.
As someone who recognizes Woods for her unique style, her body confidence, her authenticity, and her beauty, she is her own person that doesn’t need to benefit off of her mediocre, rich friends.
I truly have no idea what Woods’ future will look like in terms of her relationship with the Kardashian-Jenner family, her business endeavors, or her fame, but I’m truly looking forward to see her development and transformation in the future.
