The Kardashians Take Maternity
When I first heard the news about Kylie Jenner’s supposed pregnancy, my initial reaction was a mix of genuine astonishment, serious confusion, and insane curiosity. I thought, “OMG she’s only 20!” But honestly, are we really surprised? How did she stay baby-less with Tyga for almost TWO YEARS and end up impregnated within FOUR MONTHS of dating her new boyfriend Travis Scott?! Was “Biebs in the Trap” a greater love ballad than “Rack City”?
With all the insanity surrounding the news about Kylie, the announcement of Khloé’s pregnancy flew relatively under the radar. However, for Kardashian fanatics like me, this too is big news. This past June on the summer finale of KUWTK, Khloé dropped the bombshell revelation that she faked her fertility efforts with ex-husband Lamar Odom, secretly knowing that their relationship was never strong enough to support children. Now, fans are delighted to see that, after years of watching Khloé struggle with fertility issues, she is finally pregnant with her new boyfriend, Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers. This is both a big deal for Khloé, who has always expressed the desire to have a child, and for the Kardashian family, which has been blessed with the publicity of having not one, but TWO pregnant family members.
Now it seems only one question remains: How will the famous sisters approach their first rendezvous with maternity style? It is possible that Kylie, the notoriously promiscuous youngest sister, may follow in the footsteps of sexy older sis Kim K., known for making the baby bump trendy. Kim’s past pregnancy style followed rather simple guidelines: the tighter, the better. Some could argue that this motto applies year-round for Kim, but we can’t deny that she revolutionized maternity style by baring her bump all the way to term.
Khloé’s maternity journey will likely be a little different. Khloé has long struggled with body image issues, as documented on the family’s reality show and in her new biography, Strong Looks Better Naked. On the November 2015 premiere of KUWTK Season 11, Khloé did her first skimpy photo shoot for Complex magazine, defying her longstanding discomfort with exposing her body. Now an advocate for personal wellness and mental health, Khloé documents her rigorous workout routines and healthy diet. She acts as a body-positive ally for her millions of fans. Khloé’s journey will undoubtedly influence her maternity style, but exactly how is difficult to say.
Whereas Kylie may take a more sexy approach to maternity, Khloé is set to make pregnancy signify strength. Khloé could use her platform to emphasize the importance of physical and mental health for pregnant women, but as a Kardashian at heart, she will likely seek to benefit financially in her 9-month journey by writing a cookbook for expecting mothers or becoming a brand ambassador for Corepower. While Khloé partners with Rachael Ray, Kylie will probably make her millions through a maternity campaign with Agent Provocateur or shock everyone by walking alongside model sister Kendall in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2017.
Honestly, there is no way either powerhouse sister gets maternity style wrong. The real question here is how these two pregnancies will impact Kylie and Khloé’s fans. Will Kylie’s Kingdom celebrate her pregnancy despite her young age and relatively short relationship with Travis Scott? Will Khloé’s supportive base choose to stick with her despite faked fertility issues and her decision to get pregnant with her boyfriend of only one year? When it comes to the Kardashians, we tend to roll our eyes and move on when the sisters make headlines doing something we normal people would never do. But in this instance, Kylie and Khloé’s decisions will greatly impact their lives, and it is hard for us dedicated fans not to worry about the futures of our beloved sisters. However, we can at least find comfort in the fact the sisters would never let a questionable decision ruin a good photo op. So rest assured we are in for some sexy and sporty maternity fashion in the months to come.
