Vetements Will Show At Paris Couture Fashion Week
Vetements has been selected to show at Paris Couture Fashion Week as a guest—yeah, you read that right, a streetwear brand known for oversized hoodies will take on haute couture.
In order to be considered a haute couture house that can show at fashion week, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, the governing body of French Fashion, has to approve and the brand must meet a multitude of strict requirements. However, every season some non-couture brands are chosen to show as guests of the Fédération Française de la Couture. Besides Vetements, four other brands were chosen as guests this year: J. Mendel, Yuima Nakazato, Francesco Scognamiglio and Iris Van Herpen.
Paris Haute Couture Week starts on July 3. We can’t wait to see how Vetements turns streetwear into couture.
In Other Vetements News…
Singer Lorde took to Twitter to announce: “vetements is uncool now.” The 19-year-old singer and fashionista tweeted a series of three tweets, explaining how vetements has gone downhill.
After her first tweet deeming Vetements as “uncool,” she tweeted that the brand “came in hot for a solid year and now your lame friend down the road is buying a DHL tee.” She ended her rant with a tweet that read: “There’s no doubt in my mind that Vetements themselves are fully aware and already have something even better rising from the ashes.”
Vetements hasn’t responded to Lorde’s tweets, but we’re guessing they wouldn’t be too flattered by her remarks.
The Olsen Twins Open Up A Manhattan Store For The Row
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are turning a three-story townhouse into a flagship store for The Row. Located on the Upper East Side, the store is being decorated by Jacques Grange, whose last client was Monsieur Saint Laurent.
The Olsen twins sat down with Vogue to discuss their vision for the store. “Having lived in New York now for 12 years, we wanted the store to very much feel like a home—that’s sort of the dream here: a brownstone in New York,” Ashley said. The sisters said they want to make shopping inspiring. “It was really important for us that when you walk into the store it wasn’t about clothes being shoved in your face,” Ashley continued. “It was about the experience of walking in, taking in the space, being able to slowly introduce yourself to sweaters and slippers...come upstairs, walk through the collections in a space that’s calm.
It has yet to be announced when the store, located at 17 East 71st Street, will open.
