Style Hacks: Mixing Metals
I’ve always liked the idea of mixing metals. Whether in jewelry, clothes, or home decor, a mix of silver and gold provides a chic, elegant feel. However, it’s not easy to find the right balance. More times than not, I end up looking like a hot mess when trying to wear different colored jewelry together. I think (and hope) that i’m not alone in this dilemma. So, here are some easy dos and don’ts to master the trend of mixing metals.
Don’t wear two completely different jewelry styles together. The different metals will not look like they belong together if the jewelry aesthetics are not similar. A chunky silver ring, for example, will not work with a delicate gold ring.
Do match aesthetics. If you want to mix necklace metals, for example, try to wear simple chains with a delicate charm at the end. This will make the different metals complement each other in a light, beautiful way, rather than competing with each other for center stage.
Don’t wear one piece of clothing that is completely gold and one that is completely silver. The different metals will clash with each other and you will end up looking like a disco ball.
Do find pieces of clothing that have both gold and silver in them. This will make it look like the metals are supposed to be together, rather than a hesitant afterthought. Gold and silver clothing can be really stylish when done in a tasteful way.
Don’t include only one contrast piece in your home decor. If you have just one hint of silver in a room full of gold furniture and accessories, the silver will look out of place.
Do have a good mix of both silver and gold. If you have gold curtains, for example, try adding a silver chandelier. You can also mix silver and gold picture frames as a simple way to spice up your home. An equal balance between silver and gold in home decor will give your space a unique flair.
