Tattoos Take Over the Modeling Industry

Tattoos. Love them or hate them, decorating oneself in permanent ink is becoming quite popular. However, just a few years ago brandishing a tattoo was almost synonymous with being a degenerate. That stigma is a result of history. Throughout the course of time only gang members, pirates, prisoners, and other troublemakers exhibited ink—a clear sign not to mess with them. Yet, it seems in the 21st century that stereotype is quickly changing.

According to the Harris Poll, about 29 percent of Americans had at least one tattoo in 2015. In 2011, that number was only 21 percent. Shockingly, 47 percent of millennials bear permanent ink.

The rising popularity of tattoos is also prevalent in the modeling industry. It’s not just edgy, Urban Outfitter models either.
