The 15 Most Extra[vagant] Looks from the 2018 Met Gala
While the celebrities, designers and muses attending the Met Gala for the first time may have an excuse to dress with artistic restraint—as it is considered polite to dress modestly in order to avoid overshadowing the seasoned Met veterans—others in attendance at the invitation-only event are expected to make a bold statement through their interpretation of the theme. Out of all the fashion shows and awards events, the first Monday in May is the one day where no one in attendance should feel afraid to overdo it. It is not the day to refrain from dramatic creativity. This year, the theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” inspired many inventive allusions to Catholic persons, art and customs, but here are the top 15 ensembles that used their permission to be “extra.”
Although some of the ethereal dresses and sinister looks elicited reverence, other ungodly ensembles inspired prayer. But, nonetheless, most of those who decided to abide by the theme offered undoubtedly extra[vagant] renditions of the Catholic imagination at this year’s 2018 Met Gala.
