Love Spells 101
Valentine’s Day has come and gone and here we are, left in the ruins. Valentine’s Day can elicit a plethora of emotions for people. For some, the holiday can be a painful reminder of their loneliness when the Papa John’s delivery driver gives you that look that says the heart-shaped pizza combo is not intended for one. For others, the holiday is an opportune time to remind their loved ones how much they matter. This article isn’t really for you, but go off. So if Valentine’s Day has left you feeling like there’s nowhere to turn, don’t fret. Hope, unlike your love life, is not dead. It’s time for the final frontier: love spells.
Now there is a fair amount of controversy regarding love magic. Mystically manipulating someone's will in order to shift their affections in favor of you is a bit of an ethical grey area. However, there are means to practice a little love magic without getting quite so dark. This love magic isn’t about creating love out of thin air – it’s more about attracting love that already exists. So maybe you have a crush and have a hunch that they like you too. Instead of being honest about your feelings and talking it out, cast a spell.
First things first, in order to cast a successful spell, you need to go into it with very clear intentions. Think of it like a genie: don’t leave any wiggle room if you want things to go well. You can simply visualize exactly what you want or write it down. Just make sure you know what you’re seeking with whatever spell you cast.
Now time for the spell casting:
Honey Jar
The honey jar is probably one of the easiest spells to cast. It involves writing the name of your beloved down on a slip of paper and then placing it in a jar of honey. The idea is that it will make the subject of the spell sweet on you. Now, there’s no magic behind this, but I’d recommend using ethically sourced honey from a local beekeeper. I can’t say it will explicitly make the spell more effective, but good karma is good karma.
Candle Magic
There are a lot of love spells involving candles, some more complex than others. A very simple one involves taking a candle – pink or red would be advisable – and engraving the name of your crush or even something such as true love on it. If you wrote down your intentions before, you can place the note under the candle. You can also do things such as adding rose oil to the outside of the candle for added effect. Then, you simply light the candle. Word to the wise, you will need to completely burn the candle, so be conservative in regards to the size of candle you choose.
Bath Ritual
Another simple spell you can do to open yourself up to love is a ritual bath. It involves using hibiscus — said to attract love and lust —, rose — for long lasting love — and something like honey (to achieve the same effects as the honey jar spell). A pink quartz is also commonly used, as they are tied to the heart and symbolize love. Some choose to add the ingredients directly into the water or use a muslin bag, or alternatively, a cohort of tea strainers. Once in the bath, meditate on the partner or relationship you are seeking. And if it doesn’t work, chop it up to self care.
Now, there are a lot of love spells out there, most of which I did not outline here for you. I’ve seen The Craft, and I don’t want that on my conscience. Spell cast responsibly, and in case of any major cosmic backfire, please consult your local coven and not me.
