Must Have Apps to Have on Your Phone

As someone who tends to dread new IOS phone updates, for fear of precious memories being deleted, I was pleasantly surprised when I learned you could now delete Apple sponsored apps such as, stocks, watch, videos, podcasts and tips. Finally, our prayers have been answered and no longer do we we have to cry deleting our coveted photos from blurry nights out when our phone tells us our storage is full. Beyond keepings our favorite photos, this also allows us to add apps that we actually want and need in our lives. Here are some useful, fun and stylish apps, ranging from watching sought after and award winning documentaries to keep up with the latest galleries near you, to add to your phone:

1) Vogue App

Launched in April, this app harbors all the online content of Vogue in a sleeker, more efficient way due to the 7 mains stories the app shows you before seeing more general content. I have to admit in the beginning there were a couple occupational hazards, like the app quitting unexpectedly, but after a few software updates, those have been alleviated.

Vogue also added the feature that at 5 p.m. everyday, you get a notification that your five personalized stories are ready to read. It might seem like Vogue wouldn’t take the time do this, but throughout the past couple months that I have been using it, I have become happier and happier with the content I am see. And I can happily say, I have yet to miss a new 73 questions.

2) Made to Measure (M2M)

Recall all those late nights spent  searching for an old Alexander McQueen show or a forgotten documentary on Tom Ford. Made to Measure is  here to provide to you with all the fashion video content and  original programming you could ever want. In my opinion, the best section of the app is “films,” housing impeccable films such as the documentary on David Bowie, “The Man who Fell to Earth”, “Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton” and “Valentino: The Last Emperor” to name a few.

Since downloading this app, I can not tell you how many hours of studying I have lost, but at least I am gaining valuable fashion knowledge.

Available on iTunes

3) Artsy

In the way M2M provides you with a wealth of information about the fashion world, Artsy is the dominant app in the art world, allowing you not only to bid on and sell art, but also to get original content and updates about art related events and activities in your area. Though, I don’t expect many college students to be acquiring art any time soon, this app is perfect if you want to explore the art scene of Chicago, beyond the Art Institute. Artsy also personalizes your content by asking you to provide information about the city you are currently living in and some of your favorite artists.

4) FAD--The Ultimate Fashion Dictionary

It is often hard to keep up with the high-brow lingo of the fashion world, from different materials to the variety of different sewing patterns and more. FAD  gives all the answers with a few simple touches. Never again do you have to feel confused while watching Project Runway.

Sadly though this app isn’t free, at a cost of $3.99

5) Snapchat

Okay, Snapchat does seem like a stretch, but it you reach beyond the dog filter and go to the discover page, there are a lot of great publications including Cosmopolitan, Refinery29, Vogue and Daily Mail posting interesting and fun content every day. Also, becoming snapchat friends with magazines such as W Magazine or social media influencers like Hannah Bronfman adds a more personal touch to the app, which I have grown to love for more than just sending selfies.
